Title:               Global Marketing Manager – Retail Sector

Report to:       Marketing Programs Director

Purpose: Develop and manage marketing programs in the U.S. and international markets that strengthen demand for U.S. potatoes at supermarkets and other retail outlets and channels. Provide retailers, shippers and others with marketing tools, research and insights that will allow them to create a robust and profitable potato category at supermarkets and other grocery outlets including online.  Develop understanding and support of the program among industry members.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop the strategic framework for the retail programs in the U.S. and international markets
  • Develop and expand the retail marketing program to include all U.S. potatoes and products by determining the best activities to be carried out with the budget parameters provided
  • Manage agencies and international representatives by planning, directing and evaluating programs; establishing key messages and copy points; approving the development of assets
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with the target audience of supermarket, grocery retailers and other key decision makers in the U.S. and international markets
  • Ensure coordination and cooperation between grocery retail programs and other program areas to assure that an integrated approach is maintained and overall messages coordinated between all programs
  • Coordinate Potato USA’s supermarket and grocery retail programs with U.S. fresh potato shippers, potato product suppliers and potato processors
  • Represent Potatoes USA as a spokesperson at conventions, tradeshows and special meetings.  Make presentations and manage participation in events and conferences both in the U.S. and international markets
  • Increase industry understanding and support for Potatoes USA’s supermarket and grocery retail programs by communicating program activities and successes through industry communication vehicles, including bi-line columns, press releases, industry update stories and special publications
  • Direct research and evaluation of supermarket and grocery retail program and consumer actions at supermarket and retail, including analyzing IRI sales data and trends and sharing insights in an effective and useful format with the industry
  • Help U.S. growers, shippers and processors to become more involved in international markets and to utilize Potato USA’s supermarket and grocery retail resources and tools in the U.S. and international markets

Other Duties:

  • Meet all requirements for USDA Market Access Program (MAP) and other international market development funding; including writing Unified Export Strategy (UES), Country Progress Report (CPR), Success Stories and other reporting requirements
  • Adhere to all USDA AMS guidelines in the development and implementation of domestic marketing programs
  • Participate in the Produce Marketing Association, United Fresh and other industry association conferences
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities:  none

Knowledge, Skills and Experience required (unless otherwise noted):

  • Requires experience in category management, marketing or marketing analysis with CPG or produce company – at least five years of relevant work experience
  • Requires B2B experience in the grocery retail or supermarket sector; directly selling or marketing food products to the food retail sector
  • Experience working with food product manufacturers, suppliers, shippers and growers preferred, but not required
  • Experience working or living in international markets preferred but not required
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in analyzing sales and marketing data and presenting in an effective manner
  • Experience working directly for or with supermarkets
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing or related field, Master’s preferred
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills
  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience working with syndicated data, IRI/Nielsen, in analyzing and identifying trends
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Must be a collaborative and positive team player
  • Individual must be a self-starter and able to self-direct
  • Excellent organizational skills and detail-orientation including basic financial accounting

Working Conditions:

  • Fast-paced work environment
  • Travel required thirty (30) percent or more, including international travel
