The Northern Plains Potato Growers Association (NPPGA) is embarking on their search for a new President for the organization. NPPGA is recruiting for this role to accommodate the upcoming retirement of its current president. The President position, based in East Grand Forks, MN, is primarily responsible for representing the interests of NPPGA’s members to provide industry leadership and manage association business to fulfill its mission.
The President will be actively involved in representing the organization and its members in several capacities, including; developing and implementing programs, policies, and services to support a successful and vibrant potato industry; enhancing product development opportunities within the industry; legislative representation with local, state, and federal government agencies; involvement with bargaining cooperatives to strategize and negotiate positive production agreements for growers; and contributing information to industry publications.
Other responsibilities include supervising the organization’s staff; creating and managing a budget for the organization; representing the organization at events and coordinating event attendance; conducting research and preparing news releases for industry publications; and interacting frequently with growers and organization members.
This position requires a strategic, big-picture thinker with an ability to focus on the tactical aspects of the work. The position requires an executive who is confident, takes independent action and initiative with a sense of urgency, and who seeks and accepts decision authority and responsibility. This individual must have a proven ability to manage an operation and enhance the financial strengths of an organization, possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, experience with representing and influencing issues on behalf of an organization, and a high level of comfort interacting with the media, community, and legislative members. Advanced leadership experience in potato, produce, or other agriculture entity is preferred, but not required. A bachelor’s degree is preferred for this position. Travel will be required which may routinely include evening or weekend work. This position offers a competitive salary and a benefits package.
